ENCOURAGEMENT AS A PHILOSOPHY OF MUSIC EDUCATION

In my 25 years of experience as a professional music educator, I have discovered that with all of the sophisticated and profoundly worded music education philosophies there is one simple approach which I continue to draw upon year after year and student after student. Simply said, teaching music is ENCOURAGEMENT!  To encourage students to sing, play, write or perform music in order to bring them to a point of self-confidence, self-esteem, and enjoyment in music. Encouragement also challenges those students who have confidence in their musical skills to progress forward in order to encounter new concepts, techniques and skills in their development as musicians.
